Some people may say its value, as some pearls are considered priceless, others may say its scarcity as the odds of finding one in an oyster is around 1 in 12,000, with some pearls considered rare. And there are those who may answer, “its exquisite nature'.
Whatever your reason, one cannot deny that pearls are quite valuable and immensely appreciated, especially by women.
This immense love by women may stem from the probability that they share some similarities. Motherhood makes women priceless since the future of existence as we know it, is highly dependent on them. A woman's thought patterns, difference of view and emotional intelligence can make her exquisite, while, to some men, finding the ideal woman to have as a spouse, can be a bit of a scarcity.
However, do women see themselves as being a special individual, one that is exquisite and extremely valuable? That is the question that will be explored on Sunday (Nov 19) when the Women's Ministry of the Port of Spain Church of Christ hosts its annual 'Women's Day' at the Hyatt Regency, Port of Spain.
Titled “The Pearl”, this year's edition focuses on the theme, “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it" Matthew 13:45-46.
The aim is to get women of this society to ask themselves the questions, 'What do I have that is worth everything I own?, and 'What do I aspire to have for which I am are willing to give up all that I currently have?'
In a world where truth is distorted, the answer to these questions and many more will be explored at “The Pearl”, where real women discuss real life and some of the issues that affect them.
A pearl, which comes in many colours, as numerous as those of the rainbow, and also in many sizes, is formed when an oyster, in a bid to defend itself against any irritant that enters its shell, secretes a fluid called nacre to coat the irritant. After layers and layers of coating, a precious gem is the end result.
It is said that a pearl symbolises the purity, generosity, integrity and loyalty of its wearer, as well as wisdom acquired through experience. Thus, “The Pearl” will explore the means for women to defend themselves against life's irritants and use the experience of trusting in God to become pure, generous and loyal women of integrity.
Tickets for the event, which starts at 3.00 p.m., are priced at $200, and in addition to hearing from some powerful and dynamic local speakers, patrons will be entertained in song by Brenda Butler, while light refreshments will be served.
